Hello!

I’m Amanda, and I love all things related to tiny people!

After years of brainstorming ideas, researching, blogging, reading, and connecting with other experts, I want to share all of this information with parents and educators everywhere!

Why Choose Doctor Teacher Mommy:

Years of working with children and adults have helped me gain a wide-encompassing view of how people seek, attain, and use knowledge. There is no one right way to parent or educate, just as there is no one right way to learn.

I’ve trained as an ECE educator. I’ve worked with children of multiple ages, cultures/ethnicities, socioeconomic levels, and many different regions of the country. My training has always been child-centered, child-driven, emergent, and responsive. I also know educators’ challenges with outside requirements, influences, and developmentally inappropriate requests.

My studies of psychology and mental health expanded my understanding of how our early interactions lay a foundation for all future relationships. The incredible, complex nature of early attachment relationships can have lifelong effects on the way a person interacts with others.

More importantly, I have been incredibly lucky and privileged to have these life experiences, and I feel compelled to share this information with others. Someone who can hold space for participants to ask questions, make meaningful connections, and rephrase information can empower anyone to be a successful learner, regardless of their diverse backgrounds. I want to be that person for you!

How Does It Work?

Twofold:
First is working directly with young children and their adults. By providing live classes and playgroups, I can help connect adults to their children by modeling fun, interactive ways to engage together. Using music and movement together helps adults feel less inhibited during these experiences, allowing the child to form bonds with their caregiver.

The second is working to build capacity in adults. Parents, educators, and related professionals have incredible, long-lasting effects on young children. By building capacity through workshops and professional development trainings, attendees can bring new knowledge to all of their future interactions. I provide current research and evidenced-based information in easy-to-understand sessions, allowing attendees to implement their new knowledge immediately.

Doctor

When I completed my B.S. and M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education, I knew I was just starting to understand this fundamental stage of development.

Recently, I completed my Ph.D. in Infant and Early Childhood Development, specializing in Mental Health and Developmental Differences.

My research focused on my biggest passions: how musical interactions affect a mother’s mental health and the developing attachment relationship with her child. Now, I want to share everything I learned with all of you!

Teacher

For years, I’ve worked with infants, toddlers, 3’s, 4’s, and mixed-aged groups of young children in many different settings. From a Title 1 Headstart inner-city classroom to a research laboratory school on a university campus, I’ve experienced various teaching situations.

While working as a reflective educational coach, I began to truly hone in my love of working with those who have the most significant impact on children. I look forward to continuing working with educators and other early childhood professionals who support families in the most important ways!

Mommy

What’s the most humbling way to realize how little you know? Become a parent!

One of the reasons I felt so lucky in the early stages of motherhood was for all of the wise women I had in my life. They shared resources, stories, ideas, and comfort in knowing we were all figuring it out together. They showed me that through the many different decisions we made as parents, all stemming from our unique composition of lived experiences from various cultural backgrounds, we all had the same goal of giving our little ones the best possible start in life.
